Gross P&L is the raw profit or loss before commissions. Net P&L is what you actually keep. For high-frequency traders, commissions can erode 20–50% of gross profits. Tracking your commission-to-gross-profit ratio is an important efficiency metric.
For futures traders: multiply the point P&L by the contract's tick value. For example, 1 ES point = $50, so a 10-point gain on 2 contracts = $1,000 gross.
